Faucet And Drain Information

by Christopher Taylor

When it comes to plumbing, there are many things that may go wrong that require a call to a plumber. If you don't have more than simply basic plumbing knowledge, then it is best to not try to delve into the world of plumbing repairs on your own, or you can end up making things worse than they were before. However, the faucets and drains are two areas of your home's plumbing that you may be able to take care of on your own in many instances. Here are some things you should understand about faucets and drains:

Choosing the right faucets

If you are in need of a new faucet for your sink, then there are some things to think about. The first thing you want to know is that you should really stay away from plastic faucets. There are many on the market that look just like the higher-end ones. Therefore, you always want to take the extra few seconds to make sure you aren't coming home with a plastic faucet that won't last nearly as long as the others.

You also want to make sure that the faucet is going to line up correctly with the holes already in place, so taking precise measurements before heading to the hardware store is important. Consider getting a unit that offers you a hand-held head. A hand-held head can be extremely convenient.

Keeping the faucets in good working condition

You can prevent a lot of issues from going wrong with your faucets by making sure you don't twist too hard to turn the water off and by caring for the faucet head. You can remove the head of the faucet . Once you have it off the unit, take it apart further and use vinegar and a toothbrush to clean it completely.

Keeping your drains free of clogs

Keep your drains clean by putting two tablespoons of baking soda and two tablespoons of vinegar into the drains every couple of weeks to keep them clean. Never allow oils, greases, harsh chemicals and scraps of foods to go down the drains. If you have a garbage disposal in your kitchen, make sure you only use it for its intended purpose, and that is to clear up any little crumbs and tiny scraps that get in the drain when you are rinsing dishes. It is not intended to chop up large pieces of food.

About Me

everything that a plumber can do for you

Many people think that a plumber is there to be called to unclog toilets and drain pipes, but they don't understand that there are a number of other tasks that a plumber can do around the home. As the wife of a plumber, I know very well how much my husband does when he is out working. He comes home and tells me his fun stories about the superhero that was flushed down the toilet or the hot water heater that nearly exploded. My blog is filled with all sorts of tips, stories and information that can help you get a better idea of everything that a plumber can do for you.
