If your business water softener does not seem to be working correctly, there are a few things that you can check in order to hopefully fix your water softener and get it working properly again.
#1 Look out for Salt Problems
Salt, the very material used to soften your water, can also contribute to issues with your water softener as well. The first thing you should do is take a broom handle or other long handled item and carefully stick it into the brine tank. Move it around to see if salt has formed a hard dome. If you feel a hard dome, use the long-handled item to break-up the dome.
These salt domes, or bridges, can form over time and prevent salt from flowing through the system as it should.
Next, check and see where the salt level is at. If the salt level is really low, you may need to remove the salt mush from your tank and fill it up again.
#2 Check the Resin Bed
Second, you need the resin bed to be clean in order for your water softener to function properly. The resin bed should ideally be cleaned at least twice a year. This is a really simple process. All you need to do is take some diluted resin cleaner, and pour it into the brine well tube on your water softener. Then, pick up the brine valve assembly and rinse if off with some warm water to clean it up.
#3 Check the Venturi Assembly
Finally, check the venturi assembly. The venturi assembly is the part where the water flows from the brine tank over to the resin tank. This little part plays an important role in the function of your water softener. When the screen or nozzle inside of the venturi assembly gets clogged up, water will not get properly filtered and cleaned.
To clean the venturi assembly, you have to carefully take it off your water softener, open it up, and remove the filter screen. All the parts are really small, and can be cleaned with a toothbrush. Put all the parts inside of a small container, fill it with warm water, and use a toothbrush to scrub away the build-up on these parts before putting it back together.
If your water softener at your business is not working correctly, you are going to want to break up any salt bridges, replace the salt if it is low, clean the resin bed, and clean the venturi assembly. If these steps don't get your water softener working properly again, reach out to your local commercial plumbing services for some assistance. Hard water can be hard on your appliances and equipment at your business, so you want to make sure that you keep your water softener in good working order at all times in order to protect your equipment.
Many people think that a plumber is there to be called to unclog toilets and drain pipes, but they don't understand that there are a number of other tasks that a plumber can do around the home. As the wife of a plumber, I know very well how much my husband does when he is out working. He comes home and tells me his fun stories about the superhero that was flushed down the toilet or the hot water heater that nearly exploded. My blog is filled with all sorts of tips, stories and information that can help you get a better idea of everything that a plumber can do for you.
